Somerset Primary School Pupils Begin Each Day with Joy and Pride, Receives High Praise from Ofsted

Oakhill Church School in Somerset has earned high praise from Ofsted for fostering a nurturing environment where pupils start each day with joy and pride. The primary school, part of the Bath & Wells Multi Academy Trust, achieved a “strong standard” rating for Inclusion and Leadership & Governance under Ofsted’s updated inspection framework.

As one of the first schools in the region assessed using the new five-point framework, Oakhill was commended for its emphasis on inclusion and support for pupils with additional needs. The framework’s categories range from Urgent Improvement to Exceptional, reflecting Ofsted’s increased focus on SEND provisions.

Inspectors highlighted the school’s “highly inclusive culture,” which is deeply embedded and actively demonstrated by both staff and pupils. They praised the rigorous oversight of support systems for learners requiring extra help.

Other areas, including attendance, behaviour, curriculum quality, early years provision, and personal development, were rated as meeting expectations.

Nikki Edwards, CEO of the Bath & Wells Multi Academy Trust, expressed pride in the school’s achievements, emphasizing the collective efforts of leaders, staff, and pupils. Executive Headteacher Stephanie Dowley echoed these sentiments, affirming the school’s continued focus on academic excellence and inclusive education for all children.
