Somerset Nursery Triumphs: From ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’ in Under a Year

Busy Bees Day Nursery in Weston-super-Mare has made an impressive recovery, elevating its Ofsted rating from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’ in less than a year. Previously rated ‘Inadequate’ across all categories in November 2024, the nursery’s transformation stands as a testament to dedicated leadership and committed staff.

Caring for children aged three months to five years, Busy Bees’ recent Ofsted report highlights significant advancements: “Leaders and staff have worked hard since the last inspection to improve the quality of care and education children receive. A broad and well-sequenced curriculum has been established, and necessary changes have been effectively implemented.”

Key improvements include the introduction of a lending library, regular parent evenings, and consistent updates via the nursery’s app, ensuring parents stay connected to their children’s daily activities.

Central to this success is new Early Years Manager Rebecca Quartley, who took charge in April 2025. Bringing 12 years of experience and backed by a team boasting over 50 years of combined expertise, Rebecca has been pivotal to the nursery’s progress.

Rebecca Quartley, Centre Director at Busy Bees, expressed her pride: “I am incredibly proud of the team and everything we have achieved in such a short time. Our Ofsted results reflect our shared commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment where children can flourish. Strengthening relationships with parents and creating a positive workplace culture have been key to our success. We are excited to continue building on this foundation to provide the best early years education possible.”

Parents have noticed the positive changes too. Katy Horton, whose son attends the nursery on Bransby Way, shared her experience: “Since Becka joined Busy Bees in April, the nursery has gone from strength to strength. She is approachable, honest, and has restored my confidence in the care my child receives. The staff are confident, happy, and knowledgeable, offering high-quality activities and supporting my son’s smooth transition to pre-school. My son is happy, stimulated, and has made remarkable developmental progress.”

Busy Bees Day Nursery’s journey is a powerful example of how effective leadership and a dedicated team can turn challenges into success, benefiting children and families alike.
