Skye Dorland, a dedicated NHS midwife from Somerset, is trading her scrubs and crocs for sequins and high heels as she competes in the Miss England pageant. At just 23 years old, Skye recently earned the title of Miss Somerset, securing her place in the national finals of the prestigious beauty contest.
Typically, Skye can be found supporting women through pregnancy and childbirth at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil Hospital within the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. Now, she is balancing the demands of her challenging midwifery shifts with preparations to take the stage at the Miss England grand final on November 20 and 21 at The Grand Station in Wolverhampton.
Skye entered the pageant to highlight the vital and often overlooked role midwives play. “Each day, I support, encourage, and empower women from all walks of life during pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatally,” she explains. “Having witnessed the strength and resilience of women firsthand, I want to use this platform to advocate for maternity services and inspire fellow healthcare professionals.”

Beyond her professional commitments, Skye is also a gifted singer and performer with experience on London theatre stages through her local amateur theatre group. She finds joy in performing and creating connections, embracing the pageant journey as a chance to express herself and meet new people.
With just over a year since qualifying as a midwife and diligently working towards a band 6 position, Skye brings academic excellence to her profession, having graduated with first-class honours from Bournemouth University after three years of training.
Her commitment extends beyond healthcare; Skye recently organized a “Beauty with a Purpose” fundraiser on social media to support DKMS, a charity dedicated to helping individuals with blood cancer. She aims to raise awareness about the importance of stem cell donation and encourage others to register as donors.
