On the outskirts of Wells, Garage 6 is marking its first anniversary as a unique motorcycle café that blends the thrill of bikes with the art of exceptional coffee. Founded last summer by husband and wife team Laura and Andy Bain, Garage 6 reflects their shared enthusiasm for both motorcycling and quality brews.
Since opening, the café has welcomed motorcycling legends like Scott Redding and hosted numerous charity events. Each summer, Garage 6 organizes monthly ‘Bike Nights,’ gathering an impressive lineup of motorcycles outside the café. These evenings feature delicious tea, cakes, and a special dish, all while supporting worthy causes.
Bike Nights have raised funds for organizations such as Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Blood Bikers, a dedicated group of volunteer riders who transport vital medical supplies to hospitals. Laura emphasizes the importance of giving back, saying, “The biking community is truly passionate about charity.”

Garage 6 feels like a family venture in every sense. The Bains also launched the Quickshifter Coffee Company in 2022, delivering several motorcycle-inspired coffee blends. Their ‘Chasin’ the Racing’ blend offers a delicate, acidic profile with hints of mulled wine and warming spices, while the ‘Garage’ blend boasts notes of rich dark chocolate, herbs, and cedar.
Building on their successful online coffee business, they opened the café in 2024. Their daughters, aged 10 and 11, share their parents’ love for bikes and often help out in the shop, adding to the welcoming, family atmosphere.
Earlier this year, the family traveled to the Isle of Man to experience the iconic TT (Tourist Trophy) race. Laura fondly recalls the trip: “It’s a beautiful island, and the locals are incredibly warm and friendly.” Inspired by this experience, their ‘37.7’ blend—named after the race’s 37.7-mile circuit—is sourced from Papua New Guinea and is celebrated for its sweet, smooth flavor.
Garage 6 invites everyone—from hardcore motorcyclists to curious newcomers—to visit, admire the bikes, and enjoy a great coffee. Laura welcomes all with open arms: “We see a huge mix of people, girls and boys on all kinds of bikes. It doesn’t matter what you ride.”
The café is open daily: 8:30 AM to 2 PM Monday and Tuesday; 8:30 AM to 4 PM Wednesday through Saturday; and 11 AM to 4 PM on Sundays. The kitchen closes at 2 PM every day.
