Somerset Microbrewery Fat Head Launches New Taproom in Taunton’s Independent Quarter

Fat Head Brewery, a popular microbrewery established by friends Sam Cureton and Tom Adams in Weston-super-Mare, is expanding its reach with a brand-new taproom in Taunton’s Independent Shopping Quarter. Opening on August 9, the new venue, named Tap One, will occupy the former Ninkasi bar site in the heart of Taunton’s shopping district.

While the previous bar was known primarily for its selection of gins, Tap One will pivot its focus towards craft beers, with an extensive range from Fat Head’s own brewery complemented by rotating guest taps. Visitors can also enjoy a curated selection of wines, ciders, and spirits, making it a versatile destination for all tastes.

Founder Sam Cureton and taproom manager Sophie Davenport are enthusiastic about the transformation. “We loved what Ninkasi had achieved and saw huge potential in this location to create a welcoming hub for craft beer lovers right in central Taunton,” they said. “The Riverside Place spot is ideal for an independent venue that champions community spirit and fantastic drinks.”

The team is preparing the space with care and excitement, promising an atmosphere filled with great music, chilled vibes, and some fresh, exciting offerings. Small-batch specialty brews will be featured alongside gluten-free and low or no-alcohol options to cater to a wide audience.

Looking ahead, Fat Head plans to introduce music nights, community events, and a takeaway selection of beers and ciders, aiming to create a vibrant social venue beyond just a bar.

Founded in 2023, Fat Head Brewery emerged from the shared passion of Sam and Tom—originally from Bristol and Portishead—who both worked in Weston bars before launching their unique brewery at 127 High Street in Weston-super-Mare. Their latest venture in Taunton marks a significant step forward in their journey to spread craft beer culture throughout Somerset.
