Somerset Men Charged Following Series of Night-Time Burglaries

Three men from Somerset have been formally charged following a series of burglaries and attempted break-ins across South Gloucestershire during August and September. The incidents, linked by Avon and Somerset Police, took place in Downend, Hanham, Longwell Green, Mangotsfield, and Staple Hill—areas on the outskirts of Bristol.

The perpetrators forced entry into homes while residents were asleep. The individuals named are Declan David Byrne, 27, Nathan Peter Gallichan, 25, and Jordan Douglas Mills, 24, all from Weston-super-Mare. They appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on December 4.

Among the offenses, the men are charged with burglarizing a Downend house in the early hours of September 2, where two BMW cars and their keys were stolen. Fortunately, the vehicles were later recovered by the police. They also stand accused of breaking into a home in Longwell Green, stealing a gaming device, cash, a laptop, and golf clubs. Additionally, they face charges related to attempted burglaries at five other residences.

Following the hearing, Byrne, Gallichan, and Mills were released on conditional bail, which includes an overnight curfew enforced by electronic tagging. They are set to return to Bristol Crown Court on January 16, 2026.

Neighbourhood Inspector Barnaby Mabbett expressed sympathy for the victims, stating, “Having your home broken into is a distressing ordeal, and our neighbourhood team is committed to supporting those affected and bringing those responsible to justice.”

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson confirmed the connection between the seven offenses, emphasizing the seriousness of the intrusions and the police’s dedication to resolving the case.
