Somerset Man Charged with Murder to Face Trial

A Somerset man is set to stand trial next year after being charged with the murder of an elderly woman. Richard Breed, aged 62, faces charges related to the death of 87-year-old Brenda Breed, who was found deceased on July 22.

Emergency services pronounced Brenda Breed dead at a residence on Monmouth Close in Westonzoyland, near Bridgwater, on the morning of July 22. Richard Breed, who currently has no fixed address, was excused from attending the initial hearing held at Bristol Crown Court on July 25.

Judge Peter Blair KC, The Recorder of Bristol, scheduled Breed’s trial to commence on January 5, with proceedings expected to last up to six days. Additionally, a plea and trial preparation hearing is set for August 29.

Richard Breed remains in custody pending the trial.

In a heartfelt statement, Avon and Somerset Police shared words from Brenda Breed’s family: “There are no words to describe the pain and devastation which has rippled through our family, friends, and the community from the loss of such a remarkable and much-loved woman.”
