This year’s King’s Birthday honours list celebrates a distinguished group of individuals from Somerset, reflecting the county’s rich tapestry of service across education, journalism, sport, defence, and the arts.

At the forefront is Sir Donald McCullin, the internationally acclaimed photojournalist, who has been appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honour for his outstanding contributions to photojournalism. His recognition highlights his remarkable career and positions him as the most prominent name on Somerset’s honours list.

Joining Sir Donald are other notable figures including Charlotte Webster, an accomplished broadcaster and documentary maker, and Mel Bound, a dedicated community sport advocate and founder of This Woman Runs. The honours also extend to senior education leaders, church officials, and public servants throughout Somerset and the wider South West region, acknowledging their steadfast dedication to serving the public.

Moreover, a diverse group of local volunteers from towns such as Minehead, Taunton, and Frome have been recognised for their invaluable contributions. These include efforts in scouting, church music, and various community support roles, illustrating the depth of grassroots commitment within the county.

Together, these honourees represent the spirit of service and cultural richness that defines Somerset, earning well-deserved recognition this year.
