Somerset House Under Renovation Severely Damaged by Overnight Fire

A house in the Somerset village of Trull has been severely damaged after a fire broke out overnight. The property, believed to be Woodcroft House on Comeytrowe Road, caught fire in the early hours, prompting an emergency response.

Firefighters were alerted around 3 a.m. following reports from two members of the public who noticed smoke emerging from the detached, unoccupied home that was undergoing renovation. Upon arrival, crews found the roof fully engulfed in flames, leading to the mobilization of additional fire engines and a Water Carrier to assist in containing the blaze.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that firefighters worked swiftly using Breathing Apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Thermal Imaging Cameras were employed to detect any remaining hotspots. Despite these efforts, the fire caused approximately 70% damage to the structure.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. In response, the National Grid was dispatched to isolate the electricity supply, and Wessex Water was informed of the incident. Fire crews plan to return to the site to ensure no residual heat or flare-ups remain.

The community continues to process the loss of a historic property, once poised for renewal but now facing extensive restoration challenges.
