Somerset Head Coach Jason Kerr Commits to Club with Confidence for Future Success

Somerset head coach Jason Kerr has reaffirmed his commitment to the County Ground by signing a new contract that extends his stay until the end of the 2028 season. The 52-year-old Lancashire native is optimistic that the club’s period of success will continue, building on his impressive track record.

Since taking the helm in 2018, Kerr has guided Somerset to multiple trophies, including the Vitality T20 Blast titles in 2023 and 2025, as well as the One-Day Cup triumph in 2019. His leadership has not only brought glory in limited-overs cricket but has also revived Somerset’s competitiveness in the County Championship, raising hopes of securing the club’s elusive first Championship title.

“I’m incredibly privileged and delighted to have my contract extended,” Kerr said. “My hunger and desire to be successful and to develop players only gets stronger. It’s incredibly exciting when you look at the potential of the club. The group of players that we have can achieve great things. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and one that’s brought successes to the club. Hopefully, we can add to that success in the coming years.”

Kerr’s connection to Somerset runs deep. He made his debut for the club in 1993 and played until 2001, before a shoulder injury ended his playing career prematurely in 2002. Returning to Somerset, he led the Academy and Second XI from 2005 and was appointed as bowling coach in 2015, before becoming head coach in 2018.

Under Kerr’s stewardship, Somerset has become a powerhouse in white-ball cricket, consistently competitive across all formats. His work has fostered a strong culture within the team, nurturing talent and driving continuous improvement.

Andy Hurry, Somerset’s director of cricket, praised Kerr’s dedication: “Jason’s passion for Somerset County Cricket Club is plain for all to see. As well as leading the team to three major titles, he has instilled a culture within the dressing room that enables players and staff to thrive. His constant desire to improve and innovate benefits the entire club. We are delighted he has committed his future to Somerset Cricket.”

With Kerr at the helm, Somerset looks poised to build on its recent successes and aim for even greater achievements in the coming years.
