Somerset Head Coach Jason Kerr Commits Future, Eyes More Trophy Success

Somerset head coach Jason Kerr has extended his contract with the club through the 2028 season, expressing strong confidence in the team’s potential to continue their winning momentum.

The 52-year-old Lancastrian, who guided Somerset to two Vitality T20 Blast titles in 2023 and 2025 and the One-Day Cup triumph in 2019, is aiming to further build on these achievements. Beyond limited-overs success, Kerr hopes to lead Somerset to their first-ever County Championship title after a promising start to the current season.

“I’m incredibly privileged and delighted to have my contract extended,” Kerr said. “My hunger and desire to be successful and to develop players only grow stronger. It’s incredibly exciting to consider the potential of this club.

“The group of players that we have can achieve great things. It’s been an incredible journey with successes to be proud of, and we hope to add to that legacy in the coming years.

“I fully understand what this club means to the community because it means the same to me. I love what I do, and the growing expectations around this team reflect how far we’ve come. That drives me every day.”

Kerr’s connection to Somerset runs deep. He debuted for the club in 1993 and played until 2001 before joining Derbyshire. A shoulder injury ended his playing career in 2002, but Kerr returned to Somerset in 2005 to lead the Academy and Second XI, eventually becoming bowling coach in 2015.

His effective leadership in the Somerset Pathway earned him the head coach position in 2018. Since then, he has maintained Somerset’s consistent competitiveness across all formats, cementing their status as a dominant force in white-ball cricket with their recent T20 Blast championships and frequent appearances in finals.

Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, praised Kerr’s impact: “Jason’s passion for Somerset County Cricket Club is clear. He has led the team to three major titles and fostered a culture in the dressing room that allows players and staff to thrive. This is reflected in several of our players and coaches being selected for global tournaments and international cricket in recent years.

“Jason has a relentless drive to improve and innovate, benefiting the entire club. It’s been a privilege to witness his growth, and we are all thrilled he has committed his future to Somerset Cricket.”
