Somerset Girl, 10, Champions Sport Inclusion with Inspiring Fundraiser

Sport and exercise play a vital role in our mental and physical wellbeing, and for 10-year-old Jemima Carew Pole from Horsington, Somerset, this belief is more than just words—it’s a way of life. Passionate about sport, Jemima understands that not all children are as fortunate as she is to enjoy the opportunities it provides.

Determined to make a difference, Jemima committed herself to running 5k every day for a week. But she didn’t stop there. She also organized a swim and a cake sale, all to raise funds for The Mintridge Foundation—a charity dedicated to making sport accessible to all children, including those from the most marginalized communities.

“I found running 5k each day really challenging, especially towards the end of the week,” Jemima admits. “But I pushed through because I care about this cause. I love baking too, so the cake sale should be fun and easy!”

Her fundraising page, titled “Giving Everyone a Chance,” reflects her deep passion. “I believe sport should be for everyone,” Jemima says. “It can be expensive, and not every child has the same opportunities. I want to help provide kids with the same chances I have.”

Her efforts have already surpassed expectations. With an initial goal of £1,000, Jemima’s campaign had raised almost £2,500 before the cake sale took place, demonstrating overwhelming support from the local community, friends, and family. Messages of encouragement have poured in, celebrating Jemima’s determination and kindness at such a young age.

Charlotte, Jemima’s mother, shares her pride: “Jemima loves sport and is lucky to have a supportive school. She decided on her own to raise money for a charity helping children access sport. We set up her sponsorship page together, but the ideas—5k runs, a swim, and a cake sale—were all hers. The runs were tough, with many stops and tears, but she didn’t give up. The reward is not just the money raised, but her incredible perseverance.”

Jemima’s story is a powerful reminder that passion and determination can help break down barriers, giving more children the chance to experience the joy and benefits of sport.
