Somerset Farm Shop on the A303 Poised for Major Expansion

Teals, a popular farm shop located just off the A303 at South Cadbury in Somerset, is set to undergo a significant expansion. The owners have submitted plans to Somerset Council seeking approval to enlarge and improve the existing buildings and parking facilities. This development aims to introduce additional retail areas, expanded takeaway food services, and a bigger car park to better accommodate visitors.

The proposal highlights intentions to increase both operational and storage spaces while creating a dedicated takeaway section to ease current congestion. The design of the extensions will maintain the farm’s aesthetic, preserving the architectural style reminiscent of traditional farm buildings through the use of similar materials.

The expansion also reflects the growing economic impact of Teals. Since opening in 2020, the farm shop has been a major success, attracting customers from the local community and travelers passing through Somerset on the A303. The increased footfall has necessitated the creation of more jobs, as staff numbers have already exceeded initial forecasts.

According to the submitted plans, “the proposed expansion will modestly increase retail and community space, significantly improving circulation, staff facilities, and office areas." The goal is not only to accommodate the shop’s growing popularity but to enhance the overall customer experience and community use.

The fate of the application lies with Somerset Council, which will review and decide on the proposal in the coming months.
