Somerset edged out by Lancashire in thrilling One-Day Cup encounter

Somerset incurred their first loss in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup as Lancashire’s Marcus Harris played a vital innings of 95 runs to guide his team to a tense two-wicket victory.

Batting first after losing the toss, Somerset posted a competitive total of 250 for seven. Lewis Goldsworthy led the charge with 63 runs, supported by Archie Vaughan’s steady 59 and an impressive 57 from 19-year-old Fin Hill. Offspinner Arav Shetty made a notable List A debut, claiming 3 wickets for 34 runs over his ten overs.

Lancashire chased down the target of 254 with eight balls to spare, with Harris scoring his 95 from 99 deliveries, including seven boundaries and two sixes. George Balderson chipped in with a significant 65 runs, and their crucial 101-run partnership for the fifth wicket proved decisive in front of a lively crowd of over 5,000 spectators during Somerset’s annual Family Fun Day.
