Somerset delivered a commanding performance to defeat Glamorgan by an innings and 64 runs inside three days at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, bolstering their pursuit of a first-ever Rothesay County Championship title.
The hosts were well served by the bowling trio of Jack Leach, Craig Overton and Lewis Gregory, who collectively took nine wickets to dismantle Glamorgan’s batting line-up. Left-arm spinner Leach claimed three wickets for 46 runs, while seamers Overton and Gregory took three for 29 and three for 68 respectively, limiting Glamorgan to 183 all out in their second innings following an overnight position of 30 for one.
Despite individual contributions from Asa Tribe, who top-scored with 49, and Sean Dickson with 47, the visitors were outclassed across all facets of the game.

The victory earned Somerset 23 points, placing them temporarily at the summit of the championship table and intensifying the contest with Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire as the season nears its conclusion. Glamorgan, meanwhile, collected just three points, with their title aspirations diminishing.
After a brief delay due to a shower, Somerset struck early as Glamorgan’s skipper Kiran Carlson was dismissed for a duck off Migael Pretorius' bowling, caught by wicketkeeper James Rew. The visitors slipped to 65 for three when Ben Kellaway edged a delivery from Overton to Gregory at third slip.
A near run-out scare for Colin Ingram was escaped when Leach narrowly missed the stumps. However, Ingram soon fell, caught by Overton off Leach after scoring 108 balls including eight fours.
At 81 for five, Glamorgan required 166 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Former Somerset player Sean Dickson and Chris Cooke then formed a crucial partnership, adding 30 runs by lunchtime amid persistent turn from Leach.
The pair extended their stand beyond fifty in the afternoon session, with Dickson showcasing some aggressive strokes including a reverse sweep and a pulled four off Leach.
The partnership broke when Cooke was caught at fine leg off Overton for 20. Soon after, Dan Douthwaite was dismissed for a first-ball duck, trapped lbw by Leach.
Dickson’s resistance ended at 74 balls when he was caught at second slip off Gregory, leaving Glamorgan 150 for eight.
Gregory soon bowled Connor O’Riordan for his third duck of the innings, and the match concluded at 2:40pm when Somerset captain Tom Abell caught Timm van der Gugten at cover, sealing an emphatic victory for Somerset.
