Somerset Detective Accused of Falsifying Remote Work

A Somerset detective based in Bridgwater is under scrutiny for purportedly manipulating her laptop to feign remote work.

Det Con Philippa Baskwill faces allegations of depressing keys on her keyboard to create the appearance of activity while being engaged in non-police-related web browsing.

The officer is set to appear before Avon & Somerset Chief Constable Sarah Crew for a misconduct hearing on Thursday, April 10, as per BristolLive.

An official notification for the case outlined the accusations against Det Con Baskwill, involving breaches of professional conduct related to honesty, integrity, compliance with orders, and fulfillment of duties.

It stated: “The alleged facts are: Whilst working from home, on numerous occasions DC Philippa Baskwill weighted down keys on her laptop keyboard for considerable periods of time in order to give the misleading impression that she was working. On several occasions, while working from home, DC Philippa Baskwill spent considerable and extended periods of time online for non-policing purposes, rather than carrying out her policing duties. It is contended that (if proven) the allegations amount to gross misconduct.”
