Somerset Daredevil First to Ski-BASE Jump from Mount Snowdon

A Somerset daredevil has made history as the first person to complete a ski-BASE jump off Mount Snowdon. On January 18, Tim Howell, 36, launched himself from the 1,085-meter peak in Gwynedd, North Wales, merging his passion for skiing and BASE jumping in a bold new feat.

With over 15 years of BASE jumping experience, Tim, who splits his time between Martock, Somerset, and Geneva, Switzerland, had been planning this jump for years. “We waited for the perfect combination of snow and wind,” Tim explained. “Even though the weather looked foggy, we held off until there was a clear line of sight to the landing zone.”

Tim made history not only by completing the first ski-BASE jump from Mount Snowdon but also by being the first British person to perform a ski-BASE jump eight years ago in the UK. “This was the first in Wales,” he said proudly. Critical to the jump’s success was gaining enough speed to deploy his parachute a safe distance from the cliff due to the mountain’s relatively short drop.

A full-time mountain athlete, Tim summed up his lifestyle with a smile: “I just climb up stuff and jump off it for a living, haha.” His daring leap off Mount Snowdon has undoubtedly added a new chapter to extreme sports history in the UK.
