Sedgemoor Crematorium in Somerset is undergoing a remarkable transformation to become a state-of-the-art ‘funeral super venue,’ offering bereaved families unprecedented personalization of funeral services.
Set to launch this December 16, the renovations include enhancements to the chapel and waiting areas, outfitted with advanced technology that enables unique and deeply personal commemorations. These upgrades will allow families to tailor every detail of the service, creating a heartfelt tribute unlike any before.
The crematorium is operated by Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent crematoria and cemetery networks, managing 42 sites across England, Scotland, and Wales. Renowned for their exquisite gardens of remembrance, Westerleigh combines tranquil surroundings with compassionate care and professional support.

New features at Sedgemoor Crematorium include external welcome screens streaming the order of service and live video to accommodate larger gatherings. The waiting room will showcase a digital gallery wall capable of displaying up to 25 cherished photographs, offering a reflective space before the service begins.
Inside the chapel, mourners will be enveloped in a beautifully curated immersive environment, with family-selected themes projected across the front wall. These visual canvases—ranging from serene landscapes to motifs reflecting the passions and interests of the deceased—are paired with complementary soundscapes and lighting, creating a uniquely authentic atmosphere.
Laura Williams, Sedgemoor Crematorium Manager, shared her enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled to provide families throughout Somerset and beyond with this truly distinctive funeral experience. The technology allows for personalization on an unprecedented scale, helping to craft a service that genuinely honors the individual’s life and legacy.
“Since its debut at Gedling Crematorium, nearly all families chose to include this immersive technology. The feedback has overwhelmingly been positive—many have described the experience as profoundly moving, often expressing a heartfelt ‘wow’ upon entering the chapel.
“With this exciting upgrade, we look forward to making funerals at Sedgemoor even more memorable and meaningful.”
