Kimberley and Kirsty, a devoted couple from Somerset, are overjoyed to announce the birth of their daughter, a true ‘modern miracle’ brought to life through IVF. Having started their relationship in spring 2022, they eagerly dreamed of expanding their family together.
After a year of partnership, the couple began exploring fertility options and chose the Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine (BCRM) for its outstanding success record and compassionate care. Kirsty, a nurse associate at Musgrove Park, and Kim, who works locally in Taunton, sought a fertility clinic that respected their unique needs as a same-sex couple—and BCRM delivered exceptional support every step of the way.
Their journey involved carefully selecting a sperm donor, a process they found both intriguing and meaningful. They searched for a donor whose characteristics and background resonated with them, ultimately choosing someone with an olive complexion and a family history that aligned closely with their hopes. Listening to a recording of the donor’s voice helped further reassure them of their choice.

The clinic also provided counseling and treatment support, which the couple initially approached with hesitation but soon valued deeply. The sessions covered everything from baby names to how to discuss sperm donation with others, enriching their preparation for parenthood.
Despite some challenges, including Kirsty requiring more drug treatments and additional scans over nearly three weeks, the treatment proceeded successfully. Ten eggs were retrieved, three were viable, and two embryos formed—one of which was transferred, while the other was frozen for potential future use.
The embryo transfer was an intimate moment, with Kim and Kirsty holding hands and watching the procedure on a monitor. Though the subsequent two-week wait for a pregnancy test was emotionally taxing, their hopes were confirmed when positive results appeared on two separate tests simultaneously.
Kirsty navigated her pregnancy with care, managing Crohn’s Disease along the way. On 16 June, they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Willow Dot, at Musgrove Park Hospital, weighing 7lb 9oz. Their joy was immeasurable.
Kimberley and Kirsty express heartfelt gratitude to the BCRM team for their professional expertise and compassionate care, which made this life-changing experience possible. Their story stands as a powerful testament to the possibilities that modern fertility treatments now offer.
