Temperatures in Somerset could rise to as high as 27°C next week, according to the latest forecasts from weather models. The American GFS weather model has highlighted Somerset as one of several English counties where these warmer conditions might occur.
The recent model maps point to a warming trend developing from Tuesday, with rising temperatures expected across southern and western parts of England. While the week ahead is anticipated to remain changeable, the Met Office forecasts periods of rain and showers in some areas before drier and brighter spells become more frequent.
According to the Met Office’s long-range outlook, there will be “reasonable dry and more settled periods,” particularly in southern regions, alongside opportunities for “rather warm days.” The GFS data specifically suggests that temperatures could approach around 27°C in parts of western and southern England on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Although the forecast indicates a chance of these warmer temperatures, it remains several days away, so there is some uncertainty and potential for adjustments as the week progresses. Temperature anomaly maps also show parts of England and Wales in red and orange hues, signalling conditions possibly above the seasonal average.
These warmer spells are set to follow a typical September pattern characterised by variable weather, including rain and strong winds expected throughout the current week. The Met Office’s forecast for the period from 13 to 22 September describes the weather as “changeable, with occasional rain or showers arriving from the North Atlantic, most frequent across northern and western parts of the UK,” where strong winds may also occur.
Nevertheless, the forecast indicates intervals of dry and settled weather, especially across southern areas. Towards the latter part of the month, high pressure systems may establish themselves near the UK, potentially bringing more settled conditions, particularly away from northern regions.
Overall, temperatures during this period are expected to be around the seasonal average. However, there remains scope for some warmer days interspersed with occasional cooler nights. The Met Office has not predicted a prolonged heatwave but acknowledges the possibility of notably warm days next week, including in Somerset.
