Somerset Clinch T20 Blast Title with Record-Breaking Run Chase

Somerset triumphed in a remarkable T20 Blast final, chasing down a formidable target of 195 runs to defeat Hampshire Hawks and claim their third T20 Blast title.

The backbone of Somerset’s innings was Will Smeed, who delivered an electrifying 94 off 58 balls, setting the tone for a historic chase. Complementing his effort, Sean Dickson remained unbeaten on 33, guiding the innings steadily towards victory.

Smeed’s dismissal early in the 19th over left Somerset needing 18 runs to win, but captain Lewis Gregory rose to the occasion. His explosive hitting, including two towering sixes, propelled Somerset to a final tally of 195-4—the highest score ever recorded in a Blast final. This victory marks Somerset’s second title in three years and continues their impressive run with a fifth consecutive finals day appearance.

Hampshire, fresh off Chris Lynn’s dazzling century in the semi-final, posted a challenging 194-6, powered by Toby Albert’s 85 off 48 balls, making him the season’s top run-scorer. Despite their strong performance, Hampshire were unable to defend their title against Somerset’s extraordinary batting display.

With this win, Somerset join Hampshire and Leicestershire as the only teams to have won the Blast title three times, adding to their triumphs in 2005 and 2023.

Reflecting on the victory, Somerset opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore told Sky Sports, “It’s amazing to finish a campaign like that. Smeed, Dickson, Lewis Gregory—I love being part of this very special group. This year has been special for me personally, and winning this trophy for the fans is an incredible feeling. Last year’s final loss to Gloucestershire made this win even sweeter.”

Sean Dickson praised his teammates’ resilience, saying, “Will Smeed was exceptional and has worked so hard at all these Finals Days to finally achieve this. Lewis Gregory’s 18 runs off that final over were unbelievable. The team’s self-belief and trust in the process made today remarkable. It’s a day none of us will forget.”
