Somerset triumphed in the T20 Blast final with a stunning record-breaking run chase, overcoming Hampshire Hawks to claim their third title in the competition.
The star of Somerset’s innings was Will Smeed, who delivered an exceptional 94 runs off 58 balls, laying a solid foundation for the chase. Sean Dickson also made a crucial unbeaten contribution of 33 runs, keeping the innings steady during the tense moments.
Despite Smeed’s dismissal early in the 19th over with 18 runs still needed, captain Lewis Gregory rose to the occasion. His spectacular hitting, including two towering sixes, propelled Somerset to 195 for 4 – the highest team total ever recorded in a T20 Blast final. This victory not only brought home the trophy but also marked Somerset’s second title in three years during their fifth consecutive finals day appearance.

Hampshire Hawks set a challenging target with 194 for 6, powered by Toby Albert’s impressive 85 off 48 balls, which made him the season’s top run-scorer. Chris Lynn’s brilliance in the semi-final hinted at Hampshire’s strong form, but Smeed’s and Gregory’s heroics proved decisive.
By securing this win, Somerset joined Hampshire and Leicestershire as three-time T20 Blast champions, adding to their previous successes in 2005 and 2023.
Somerset opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore reflected on the victory: “It’s amazing to finish a campaign like that. Will Smeed, Sean Dickson, Lewis Gregory – I love being part of this special group. It’s been a special year for me; having my child was incredible, but this win is a close second. We’ve put right what went wrong last year when we lost the final to Gloucestershire.”
Sean Dickson praised Smeed’s perseverance and Gregory’s remarkable finishing: “Will Smeed has been special all Finals Days and finally got his big moment. Lewis Gregory’s 18 runs in that final over was incredible. I’m very proud of the team. It’s that self-belief and trusting the process that made this possible. Today is truly a remarkable day.”
