Somerset Carnival 2026 Dates Announced for Spectacular Illuminated Processions

The dates are officially set for Somerset’s renowned illuminated carnival processions, a highlight of the South West’s Autumn calendar. These vibrant events will light up towns across East Devon, South Somerset, Wessex, and the Somerset County circuits, drawing thousands of visitors eager to experience the dazzling displays.

Kicking off on the first Saturday of September, the carnival season begins in East Devon with the procession in Seaton, followed by a series of thrilling events across the Wessex and South Somerset circuits. The Somerset County Carnival Association’s marquee event, the legendary Bridgwater Carnival, will take place on Saturday, November 7, promising an unforgettable night of spectacle and community spirit.

Last year’s festivities reached new heights, capturing international attention on social media platforms like TikTok. Globe CC’s ‘Jesters Haunt’ cart alone amassed tens of millions of views, showcasing the extraordinary creativity and craftsmanship that defines the carnivals. The competition was fierce, with Huckyduck Carnival Club and Ramblers Carnival Club sharing the coveted County Cup after winning all seven carnivals. Huckyduck CC’s ‘Scarecrow Partea’ won the tableau class at every procession, securing The Starkey Cup for the fourth consecutive year, while Ramblers’ ‘1912 – All Out’ entry dominated the feature class.

The festivities extend beyond Somerset, with vibrant carnivals scheduled in multiple towns throughout East Devon—including Colyton, Axminster, Sidmouth, and more—and Wessex locations such as Mere, Frome, and Warminster. South Somerset and independent carnivals will also dazzle spectators in Wellington, Ilminster, South Petherton, and Midsomer Norton.

Known as one of the largest illuminated processions in Europe, the Somerset Carnivals attract tens of thousands of spectators from around the UK and across the globe. They serve not only as spectacular entertainment but also as vital fundraisers for charities and contribute significantly to the local economy.
