Somerset Cancel Abu Dhabi Pre-Season Trip Amid Safety Concerns

Somerset County Cricket Club has cancelled its men’s pre-season training trip to Abu Dhabi in response to the escalating situation in the Middle East. Prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of players and staff, the team will now travel to Desert Springs in Spain, starting Sunday until March 18.

The revised trip will include a two-day red ball fixture against Yorkshire County Cricket Club, providing valuable competitive cricket ahead of the upcoming season.

Head Coach Jason Kerr explained, “Given the current developments beyond our control, safety must come first. We have been exploring alternatives all week and are pleased to secure a training stint in Desert Springs, a facility we are familiar with and confident about.”

He continued, “Although the trip is shorter and we’ve lost some game time, the opportunity to play against Yorkshire and spend quality time on the grass remains crucial for our season preparation.”

Somerset extends its support and thoughts to all affected by the turmoil in the Middle East as the club focuses on readying for the season amid these challenging times.
