Somerset-Born Footballer Jordan Storey Acquitted of Nightclub Attack Charges

Jordan Storey, a professional footballer from South Petherton, Somerset, has been acquitted of assault by actual bodily harm (ABH) and affray charges following allegations of an attack at a nightclub. The defender, who plays for Preston North End and joined the club from Exeter City in 2018, was accused by 20-year-old Tomas Watmough of punching him in the mouth at Popworld on Church Street on January 14, 2024.

During the trial at Preston Crown Court, Storey, aged 26, maintained that his actions were in self-defense after Mr. Watmough threatened to headbutt him. Storey explained to the jury that he simply pushed Watmough away to protect himself and that his intention was to avoid trouble while enjoying a night out in Preston.

After deliberating, the jury delivered unanimous verdicts of not guilty on both charges, clearing Jordan Storey of any wrongdoing.
