The much-anticipated carnival season is upon us, and Somerset is ready to light up the nights once again with its famous illuminated processions. Leading the charge is the world-renowned Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, kicking off the festivities on the first Saturday of November.
The Somerset carnival circuit unfolds with a series of vibrant events: Bridgwater opens the season on Saturday, November 1st at 6:00 pm, followed by Burnham-on-Sea on Monday, November 3rd at 7:30 pm. Weston-super-Mare dazzles on Friday, November 7th at 7:00 pm, with North Petherton taking the stage on Saturday, November 8th at 7:00 pm. Shepton Mallet’s procession lights up Wednesday, November 12th at 7:30 pm, Wells continues the celebrations on Friday, November 14th at 7:00 pm, and the spectacular finale takes place in Glastonbury on Saturday, November 15th at 6:45 pm.
Beyond the main circuit, carts have already made appearances and traveled to towns such as Wellington, Ilminster, Chard, and Taunton in South Somerset. Notable processions have also been held in Frome, Wincanton, Castle Cary, Trowbridge, and Warminster in Wessex, along with South Petherton and various locations in East Devon including Seaton, Colyton, Axminster, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Honiton, and Ottery St Mary.

Renowned as one of Europe’s largest illuminated processions, the Somerset carnivals attract tens of thousands of spectators from across the UK and worldwide. Besides the dazzling displays, these events raise substantial funds for charities and contribute significantly to the local economy.
Please note Midsomer Norton holds an independent carnival on Monday, November 10th at 7:30 pm, which is not part of the official circuit.
