Solar-Panelled Garage Ignites in Early Morning Blaze

A detached garage housing two vehicles went up in flames early Monday morning in the village of Pitney, Somerset. The fire ignited around 6:45 a.m. in a 20-meter by 10-meter brick and stone garage outfitted with solar panels on its roof.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service promptly dispatched crews from Somerton, Martock, and Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found the two-bay garage fully involved in fire. They immediately engaged the blaze using breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, an attack jet, and water from a nearby hydrant.

Fire officials confirmed that the solar panels were safely isolated during firefighting efforts. The response involved coordinated efforts to contain the flames and prevent further damage. The incident remains ongoing as fire crews continue to work on extinguishing the fire.
