Small Somerset Village Set for New 115-Home Development

Plans are underway to construct 115 new homes in the small North East Somerset village of Haydon, located near Radstock. The Silverwood Partnership, a land development firm, has submitted an outline planning application to build “high quality” residences on a field off Kilmersdon Road, just east of the Grovewood Road cul-de-sac.

The proposal includes a variety of homes with two, three, four, and five bedrooms. Importantly, 30% of these houses will be designated as affordable in accordance with Bath and North East Somerset Council’s housing policies. Detailed designs will be finalized once outline permission is granted.

A statement from the applicant highlights the readiness of the site and its suitability for development, emphasizing that the project will help address the district’s housing shortage. The location is within a 15-minute walk to Radstock center, offering residents convenient access to local amenities via well-lit, safe pavements.

In addition to providing much-needed housing, the development has been thoughtfully designed to support local wildlife and manage surface water on-site, demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Historically, Haydon’s origins include miners’ cottages from the nineteenth century, built for workers at Haydon Pit. The village has recently faced challenges, including a significant fire at a paint workshop earlier this year on its industrial estate.
