Slavi Spasov Signs for Yeovil Town, Targets Promotion Push

Yeovil Town has continued its proactive summer transfer campaign by securing striker Slavi Spasov from Southend United for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old Bulgarian forward has committed to a two-year contract after impressing in a successful spell with the Shrimpers.

Spasov played a key role in Southend’s FA Trophy triumph last season, scoring seven goals in 25 National League appearances and helping the club reach the play-offs. His prior season at Slough Town was equally impressive, as he finished as the top scorer in the National League South, a performance that earned him a move to full-time football on the Essex coast.

A product of Oxford United’s academy, Spasov made history as the club’s youngest ever goalscorer by netting in the EFL Trophy at just 16. Since then, he has gained valuable experience in both the Football League and non-league football, developing a reputation for his energy, movement, and strong work ethic—qualities he now brings to Yeovil Town.

Speaking after his signing, Spasov shared his enthusiasm: “I’m delighted to be here and ready to kick on. Last season, I had a slow start but eventually found my form and scored important goals. Winning the FA Trophy at Wembley was an unforgettable moment. I enjoyed my time at Oxford and found my time in non-league football to be an eye-opener. My goal has always been to return to full-time football, and I’m excited to help Yeovil push for promotion.”

He added, “Every time I’ve played at Huish Park, it’s been a tough challenge. I’m hopeful we can turn it into a fortress with the fans behind us. I want to start strong, find the net early, and build confidence.”

Meanwhile, Yeovil also provided an update on new signing Joe Haigh, who recently underwent minor ankle surgery. Despite interest from League One clubs, Yeovil’s management, alongside head of sports science Glenn Shepherd, carefully considered the injury during recruitment. Haigh is following a managed recovery plan through pre-season and is expected to return shortly after.
