Skywatcher Captures Stunning View of Comet Lemmon Streaking Across Night Sky

A striking celestial event unfolded over Somerset as amateur astronomer Josh Dury captured an awe-inspiring image of Comet C/2025 A6, also known as Comet Lemmon. Using advanced photographic techniques from the Mendip Hills, Dury documented the comet’s dramatic passage through the night sky.

Currently brightening steadily, Comet Lemmon is visible above the UK as it approaches its closest point to Earth on October 21. “I took this last Sunday before the expected arrival of anti-cyclonic gloom, mist, and fog,” Dury explained. “Aurora reports that evening confirmed the comet’s visibility.”

Mastering the challenges of dark sky photography, Dury combined ten individual images and applied careful adjustments to contrast and saturation, revealing intricate details of the comet’s glowing, elongated tail.

Discovered earlier this year by the Mount Lemmon Survey, this comet has amazed astronomers by brightening much faster than expected. By mid-October, it reached an estimated magnitude of 4.8, making it easily visible through binoculars and potentially even to the naked eye from dark, unpolluted UK skies.
