Summer’s bounty is almost here, and fields across Somerset and nearby are brimming with ripe fruit ready to be picked. Whether you’re craving strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, or apples, now is the perfect time to enjoy the fun of picking your own and supporting local farmers.

Here are six fantastic pick-your-own (PYO) farms to explore in and around the Somerset area:

  1. North Perrott Fruit Farm
    Willis’s Lane, Crewkerne, TA18 7SN
    Opens mid-July
    North Perrott Fruit Farm kicks off PYO season in mid-July with Vistabella and George Cave apples. As the season progresses through August to October, you can pick favourites like the Katy apple, Bramley Seedling, and Blenheim Orange. The farm shop is open daily during regular hours, but it’s best to call ahead to check what’s currently available.

  1. Thurloxton Farm
    Keirles Farm, Taunton, TA2 8RH
    Opens mid-June
    This farm soon welcomes visitors for strawberry picking. Following strawberries, raspberries, black and redcurrants, along with broad beans, will become available throughout July. Stay tuned for updates on opening times and fruit availability.

  2. Vale of Camelot Growers

    Open now
    A charming family-run business, Vale of Camelot offers more than just PYO fruit. From April to July, find plants and hanging baskets, while cut flowers are on sale June through August. You can also pick your fruit here and pick up seasonal Christmas trees and wreaths in December.

  3. Blagdon Fruit Farm
    Coldharbour, Chickerell, Weymouth, DT3 4BG
    Opens early June
    Just a short drive from Somerset, Blagdon Fruit Farm near Weymouth offers strawberries and soft fruits for picking, alongside a delightful tea room serving cream teas, cakes, and ice cream. Visitors are encouraged to call ahead due to seasonal availability. Safety measures include social distancing, mask recommendations in polytunnels, and bringing your own hand sanitiser.

  4. Forde Abbey Fruit Gardens
    4 Wheel House Lane, Thorncombe, Chard, TA20 4NA
    Opens in June
    From June, Forde Abbey welcomes pickers of strawberries, raspberries, and blackcurrants, grown at table top height for ease. Jostaberries, tayberries, and redcurrants become available later in the season. Be sure to bring your own containers and phone ahead to confirm availability and opening hours. The farm also shares delicious recipes, like for homemade strawberry jam.

  5. Ansty Farm Shop
    Salisbury, SP3 5PX
    Opening soon
    Just outside Somerset, Ansty Farm Shop in Salisbury offers fresh-baked bread, local dairy products, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. They provide pick-your-own fruit options, special shopping hours for vulnerable customers and key workers, and take phone orders for delivery or curbside pickup.
