Six Arrested on Day One of Glastonbury Festival 2024

On the opening day of the Glastonbury Festival 2024, six individuals were arrested, police confirmed, even before the main performances began at Worthy Farm in Pilton. As thousands of music fans descended on the legendary site for the weekend’s events, law enforcement maintained a strong presence to ensure safety and security.

This year’s festival features headline acts like British rock/pop sensation The 1975, the legendary Neil Young with his band The Chrome Hearts, and American pop star Olivia Rodrigo performing on the Pyramid Stage.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, Avon and Somerset Police reported a total of 14 crimes on the first day alone. These included one drug offence, two thefts, two public order violations, and three other unspecified ‘crime-related incidents.’ In addition, six ‘blank’ incidents were recorded, which may be clarified or reclassified as investigations progress.

Police emphasized that their crime statistics cover incidents both within the festival perimeter and the surrounding area. Last year, over the entire festival period from June 26 to July 1, 30 people were arrested on various charges.

Overall, 121 offences were reported during the 2023 Glastonbury Festival, with 21 arrests related to drug offences. Other charges included affray, assault-related offences, fraud, and failure to comply with a Section 35 Order.

Avon and Somerset Police maintain a continuous presence at the festival with a base on-site and regular patrols across the sprawling 900-acre venue, operating around the clock to safeguard attendees.
