A major reshuffle of local bus services in Bath and North East Somerset is set to take effect this Sunday, August 30. The adjustments include the introduction of new routes, extensions of existing popular services, and the discontinuation of some due to low demand.
One of the most notable changes is the withdrawal of the 175 service between Bath and Peasedown St John. Passengers who frequently use this route are encouraged to switch to alternatives such as the 171, 172, 173, 174, or 522 services for travel between these two locations.
Similarly, the 125 and 125S routes linking Weston-super-Mare and Wrington will be discontinued. However, travellers can still reach their destinations using the 126, U2, or X10 services, which continue to operate along similar corridors.
On a positive note, the X10 service, affectionately known as ‘The Big Lemon’ due to its bright yellow colour, is set to be extended. Previously running between Yatton and Southmead Hospital with a stop at Cribbs Causeway, the expanded route will now include calls at Congresbury, Langford, Wrington, and Walton Park in Clevedon, providing improved connectivity across North Somerset.
North Somerset councillor Hugh Malyan emphasised the benefits of these enhancements, stating, “Good public transport helps people get to work, college, appointments and leisure activities without relying on the car. Extending the X10 and introducing new evening journeys will give residents more travel options and improve connections between communities across North Somerset.”
The council has also introduced evening journeys on the X10 as a one-year trial, allowing passengers greater flexibility to travel later in the day.
Additionally, a brand new service, the U6, will commence operations between the University of Bath and London Road, Bath. Operating on weekdays during university term times, its timetable is tailored to align with lecture schedules, aiming to provide convenient transport for students.
Other Somerset services will experience various route and timetable modifications as part of these wider changes. Commuters and residents are advised to check the First Bus website for a comprehensive list of service updates and to plan their journeys accordingly.
