Leslie Roper, aged 47 and residing on Street Road in Glastonbury, has been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following his conviction for theft. The order imposes a series of stringent conditions, breach of which could lead to imprisonment.
Roper appeared at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 26 August, where he pleaded guilty to stealing multiple items from the Aldi supermarket located in Chip Lane, Taunton, in November 2024. As part of his sentence, he received a conditional discharge for eight months and was ordered to pay £50 in compensation.
The three-year CBO has been implemented under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. It aims to deter Roper from further offending and to protect the local community. Key conditions of the order include:

- Prohibition from entering the Glastonbury town centre and its shopping areas.
- Avoidance of all Aldi stores within the region.
- A ban on possessing tools or items typically used for theft.
Neighbourhood Inspector Rachel Clark commented on the outcome: “This is a significant and positive development for the Glastonbury community. The court acknowledged that Mr Roper’s actions had resulted in persistent anti-social behaviour, and deemed the order necessary to deter further offences and disruption.”
Inspector Clark added, “The three-year duration of the CBO provides clear restrictions along with strong enforcement measures that will address any future breaches, thereby ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the wider community.”
She also expressed gratitude to local residents and businesses, stating, “Their continued cooperation, including reporting incidents and providing evidence, has been invaluable in building a comprehensive case and achieving this result.”
