A new initiative is taking shape in Sherborne, as plans to launch a Men’s Shed in the town are laid bare. The project will be discussed at a public forum hosted at Castle Gardens on Thursday, April 24, from 11am to 12:30pm in The Butterfly House.
The event will explore proposals to bring the Men’s Shed model to Sherborne using the space formerly occupied by The Green Shed. Once supporting adults with dementia and learning difficulties, the site could soon be home to a new venue designed to promote wellbeing, skill-sharing, and companionship.
The Mayor of Sherborne, councillor Robin Legg, is set to open the forum, which will include a presentation by Patrick Abrahams, ambassador for Men’s Shed UK and founder of Frome Shed. Patrick will highlight the benefits Men’s Sheds have brought to communities across the country by offering a friendly space to make, mend, and repurpose.

Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and suggestions for the Sherborne Green Shed, with the forum aiming to drum up support and involvement from locals.
Councillor Guy Patterson from Sherborne Town Council expressed hope that the forum will spark a lot of interest in the initiative and build a committed team to get it off the ground and run it. Meanwhile, Mike Burks, managing director of The Gardens Group, emphasized the need to see the Sherborne Green Shed come to fruition, providing a valuable resource to improve physical and mental wellbeing and combat loneliness.
