Seven Men Charged with Over 40 Counts of Child Sexual Exploitation in Bristol

Seven men have been formally charged with more than 40 offences involving the sexual exploitation of 11 teenage victims in Bristol. Avon and Somerset Police announced these charges today, following an extensive investigation authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The investigation began in November 2023 after concerns were raised about the exploitation of a teenage girl. Charges against the men, with incidents spanning from 2022 through 2025, were brought after a focused police operation led to their re-arrest on November 11. They are set to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on November 12.

Earlier, in April 2024, the police conducted initial arrests during a coordinated day of action in Bristol. Those individuals were later released on bail as inquiries continued.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert, overseeing the investigation, emphasized the case’s complexity and sensitivity, stating: “Protecting young girls from exploitation and disrupting offending remain our highest priorities. We have ensured robust safeguarding measures and victim support are in place. Officers have worked relentlessly to uncover offences, closely coordinating with the CPS to reach this critical milestone.”

Bristol Superintendent Deepak Kenth highlighted the community impact: “Neighbourhood officers have supported this investigation from its inception. We understand this update will deeply shock our communities. We remain committed to tirelessly protecting children from abuse and exploitation. In partnership with local agencies, we continue to raise awareness among businesses including hotels and taxi drivers to recognize and report signs of exploitation. Reassurance patrols will be maintained across the city, and we encourage anyone with concerns to speak with our officers.”

James Bolton-Smith, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor and head of the CPS Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, added: “After thorough review, the CPS has authorized prosecution against seven men for their involvement in group-based child sexual exploitation in Bristol. Our prosecutors determined there is sufficient evidence and that proceeding with criminal charges serves the public interest. We thank Avon and Somerset Police for their close collaboration. We also remind the public that legal proceedings are ongoing and suspects are entitled to a fair trial. Any reporting or commentary that could prejudice these proceedings must be avoided.”

The police have created a dedicated appeal page for anyone wishing to provide information to support the investigation.
