Seven Injured in Serious Collision Between Car and Bin Lorry in Somerset Village

A collision involving a car and a bin lorry on Church Road in the Somerset village of Churchinford left seven people injured on Wednesday morning, August 27. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly before 11am, responding to reports of a serious road traffic incident.

Avon and Somerset Police, three double-crewed ambulances, an air ambulance, a doctor, and fire crews from Taunton Station all attended the scene. Police confirmed that six individuals sustained minor injuries, while one woman was airlifted to Southmead Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The police spokesperson stated, “We received reports at 10.45am of a collision involving a car and a bin lorry on Church Road. Officers, ambulance, and fire services attended promptly and cleared the scene by early afternoon. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to contact us on 101, referencing incident number 5225241990.”

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) added that alongside the woman taken by air ambulance, another patient was transported by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital for assessment and treatment.

Meanwhile, Taunton Fire Station reported a demanding day, attending not only this serious traffic collision near Church Stanton but also managing a separate caravan fire in the Tangier area.
