The family of Noah Stroud, a 21-year-old from Weston-super-Mare, have paid a heartfelt tribute after he was found dead in the woods near his hometown in May.
Described as a “very sensitive, kind, and caring” young man, Noah was known for always being there for his friends. Despite his warmth, Noah struggled with long-term anxiety and had a history of self-harm and suicide attempts. His battles with mental health challenges included hospital stays, though he had previously left hospital early due to inadequate support.
At an inquest held at Avon Coroner’s Court, it was revealed that on the early morning of May 12, Noah left a farewell voicemail to a mentor and wrote two letters—one to his mother and one to his father. His family was shocked by his death, especially as he had plans to go on holiday to Crete with his father just weeks later.
Noah was found hanging by a dog walker around 6:38 a.m. on May 12. Emergency services arrived about an hour later, making extensive attempts to revive him, but tragically, he was confirmed dead at 8:38 a.m.
Born in Manchester in 2004, Noah’s struggles with anxiety and depression began around 2017. His family shared that he also faced challenges with dyslexia and academic difficulties. Tracking his suicide attempts became harder after he turned 18 due to data protection laws.
The family believes that factors such as inadequate housing, long waits to access mental health services, insufficient police support, and losing his support dog contributed to Noah’s tragic death. They emphasized that he was “a very loved person who will never be forgotten” and had a strong circle of friends who showed their love at his funeral.
Coroner Dr. Simon Fox concluded the inquest by ruling Noah’s death as suicide.
In memory of Noah, his family is raising funds for Second Step, a charity supporting mental health services in Somerset, Bristol, and South Gloucestershire.
Noah’s story underscores the urgent need for better mental health support and awareness. His family remembers him as a loving, caring individual whose kindness touched many lives.
