Search Parties Urged to Avoid Risk While Searching for Missing Teenager in Portishead

Avon and Somerset Police have appealed to members of the public assisting in the search for a missing teenager to prioritise their own safety and avoid hazardous areas. George, aged 18, was last seen near Woodlands Road, close to the beach in Portishead, at approximately 8:20 pm on Thursday, 17 September. Authorities have expressed concerns that George may be disorientated and confused.

While the police have thanked the community for their valuable help in searching for George, they caution against traversing dangerous terrain such as mudflats, rocky sections, or elevated spots. Detective Chief Inspector James Wasiak emphasised that specialist teams trained in challenging searches are deployed to cover such areas safely.

“We truly appreciate the efforts of the public in assisting us,” said DCI Wasiak. “However, we urge everyone not to take unnecessary risks as there are expert teams handling the more difficult parts of the search.”

Officers continue to urge anyone who was in the vicinity around the time of George’s disappearance, especially those walking along the beach, to come forward. Police are particularly interested in speaking to a man believed to have been in the area who may have seen or spoken to George.

George is described as a white male, around 5 feet 7 inches tall, with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black jogging bottoms, and orange and grey shoes. He is known to have connections to both Clevedon and Portishead and was travelling on foot when he went missing.

Police remain in close contact with George’s family, who are understandably anxious and eager for his safe return. Anyone with information or sightings of George is urged to contact the police immediately.
