Screwfix is set to establish a new store at Minehead industrial estate after receiving approval for its redevelopment plans. The renowned hardware and tools retailer, which boasts over 900 stores across the UK, Ireland, and France, is expanding its presence with a new outlet on Vennlands Business Park in Minehead.
The company submitted its application in late October to transform a vacant industrial unit strategically located near the junction of Mart Road and Vulcan Road, close to the town’s household waste recycling center. The project aims to create up to twelve local jobs, benefiting both residents and trade customers.
Somerset Council has granted approval for the redevelopment, paving the way for Screwfix to begin operations early next year. The store will provide essential trade counter services to local professionals, including plumbers, electricians, builders, and facilities managers of large organizations.

Charlotte Mills, senior planner at Hybrid Planning representing Screwfix, highlighted the positive impact the store will have on the community and commercial activity, stating that it would support local businesses by providing vital supplies and services.
The development will feature access from Mart Road and three parking spaces at the front of the store. According to planning officer Gemma Webster, the proposal aligns with the West Somerset Local Plan’s objectives to strengthen Minehead as a key service and employment hub in the region. The plan encourages developments that generate employment, make use of existing sites, and avoid negative impacts on neighboring areas.
Importantly, the project involves minimal changes to the building’s external appearance, preserving the character of the industrial estate. Construction is expected to start following the Christmas period, with the store’s opening date to be announced soon thereafter.
