Scotland International Chris Harris to Depart Bath Rugby for Newcastle Red Bulls Return

Chris Harris, the Scotland and British & Irish Lions centre, has announced his departure from Bath Rugby at the end of the season to rejoin Newcastle Red Bulls, the club where he began his professional career.

Hailing from Carlisle, Harris initially made a significant impact at Newcastle, making 104 appearances before moving to Gloucester in 2019. There, he contributed over 100 appearances for the Cherry and Whites before joining reigning Gallagher Premiership champions Bath Rugby last summer.

With 47 caps for Scotland and a starting role on the British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa, the 6-foot-2 midfielder expressed his excitement about returning to Kingston Park. “It’s a real full-circle moment to be heading back to where it all started,” he said. “I’m eager to support and inspire this promising group of players as we work toward a bright future.”

Harris continued, “Newcastle is home to me, and this club has played a huge role in my journey. I look forward to bringing my experience, both on and off the pitch, and proudly wearing the Newcastle jersey once again. The club’s clear vision excites me, and I’m grateful to be part of this pivotal new chapter.”

Neil McIlroy, the sporting general manager at Newcastle Red Bulls, welcomed Harris’s return. “Chris is a top-tier player who has consistently performed at the highest levels internationally and in club rugby over many seasons,” McIlroy said. “His toughness and experience will strengthen our midfield, and just as importantly, he will be invaluable in mentoring our talented young players. Being a local, he shares our passion for getting Newcastle back among the elite in both domestic and European rugby.”
