Scooter Fire Spreads to Building in Wells, Causing Extensive Damage

On the night of Thursday, August 14, firefighters responded to a blaze in Wells after a scooter caught fire outside a property, spreading flames to the building itself. The initial emergency call was received shortly before 11:30 PM by Devon and Somerset Fire Control, reporting the scooter fire.

While crews were en route, additional calls indicated the fire had extended to the nearby property, prompting the dispatch of two more fire engines to the scene. Firefighters employed an array of equipment, including two triple extension ladders, thermal imaging cameras, breathing apparatus, multiple hose reels and jets, ceiling hooks, gas monitors, ventilation fans, and covering jets, to contain and extinguish the fire.

The affected property, constructed of brick and tile and measuring roughly 10 by 10 meters, suffered significant damage. The scooter was completely destroyed by the flames, and the property’s roof sustained approximately 30% fire damage.
