At the Barchester Kingfisher Lodge Care Home in Saltford, Bristol, two remarkable residents, Fred (94) and Doug (96), have shown that age is no barrier to making a difference. The spirited pair took on a darts marathon at the Somerdale Pavilion, rallying the local community and staff in a lively fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Over several hours, Fred and Doug demonstrated impressive skill and unwavering determination, throwing game after game with enthusiasm. Their dedication not only raised an impressive £245 in donations but also infused the care home with renewed vitality and camaraderie, inspiring fellow residents to engage and find joy in giving back.
Claudia Costinean, manager at Kingfisher Lodge, reflected on the event’s impact: “Fred and Doug’s commitment was truly heartening. Their efforts united the home and empowered everyone involved. Fundraisers like this create connection, purpose, and happiness—all while supporting such an important cause.”
