Salisbury has officially welcomed its newest mayor, Councillor John Wells, who took office as the city’s 764th Right Worshipful Mayor on Saturday, May 10. The civic ceremony was a grand affair, attended by over 100 dignitaries, including mayors from neighbouring towns and cities.
In his inaugural address, Mayor Wells expressed deep gratitude and enthusiasm for his new role. “I am honoured and privileged to serve as the 764th Mayor of Salisbury,” he said. “I look forward to engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and various organisations throughout our city. My focus will be on highlighting the invaluable contributions individuals and groups make to our community by participating in events year-round.”
The new mayor emphasized his dedication to fostering a strong community spirit and improving the city through innovation. “I will work tirelessly to nurture the positive impact of our collective efforts and consistently seek opportunities for growth and improvement wherever possible,” he added.

Supporting Mayor Wells throughout his term will be his wife, Mrs Josephine Wells, serving as mayoress. The mayoral team also includes Helen as the mayoral scout, Lottie W as the mayoral guide, with Flynn and Lottie B appointed as reserve scout and guide respectively.
For his mayoral charity, John has chosen Alabaré, an organisation committed to providing accommodation and support for vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals, including those experiencing homelessness. Councillor Alan Bayliss will serve as deputy mayor for the upcoming year, assisting Mayor Wells in his duties.
