Rush Hour Traffic Disrupted by Severe Car Fire on the M5

Significant delays plagued the M5 this evening following a severe car fire between junctions 25 and 26 near Taunton. The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly to the incident, which was reported around 5:15 pm on December 12.

A Ford Fiesta was engulfed in flames on the hard shoulder when two fire engines arrived at the scene. Firefighters swiftly took action, using a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to combat the blaze. Foam was also deployed to manage burning fuel that had spilled onto the roadway.

The fire severely damaged the vehicle. Authorities believe the blaze was accidental in nature. The fire service confirmed that the situation was under control but remained on-site to ensure complete safety.
