Rugby Stars and Butchers Unite for Community Feast at Kelly’s Open Day

This weekend, rugby stars are trading the pitch for the butcher’s counter as Kelly’s, a beloved West Country butcher shop, opens its doors for a special community event. Located in Chew Magna and co-owned by Bath Rugby hooker Tom Dunn alongside local butcher Dave Kelly, the shop will host an open day on Saturday, August 30, starting at noon.

Visitors will enjoy a unique blend of sport and gastronomy, with the chance to meet both current and former rugby players, including Tom Dunn—a distinguished treble-winning hooker—and former Bristol fly-half Callum Sheedy. Guests can indulge in a delicious hog roast, explore a variety of premium meat cuts, and enter a raffle to win a Bath Rugby shirt signed by the players.

Dave Kelly, co-owner of Kelly’s, shared his excitement, saying, “This day is all about celebrating the spirit of West Country rugby and the art of butchery together. Come and explore our shop, taste our finest meats, and connect with some of rugby’s finest athletes.”

Tom Dunn added, “We’re aiming for a fun, welcoming atmosphere where everyone can enjoy good food, great company, and a bit of rugby chat. I’ll be sticking to a low-calorie burger and a Diet Coke—I’m training hard for the new season, but that’s our little secret!”

Whether you’re a rugby enthusiast or a food lover, Kelly’s open day promises a memorable celebration of community spirit, sport, and exceptional local produce.
