Rugby Coach Praises Team’s Epic Fight Despite Narrow Semi-Final Defeat

Millfield School’s U15 rugby coach, Daniel Martin, expressed immense pride in his team’s valiant effort despite their narrow 24-21 defeat by Whitgift School in the semi-final of the Continental Tyres Schools Cup at Aylesbury RFC. The match between these two powerhouse schools was a captivating contest, with Millfield leading 14-10 at halftime thanks to tries from Toby Bryant and Noah Sprenger.

The second half saw the lead change hands three times, highlighted by captain Josh Hinde-Smith’s crucial try that brought Millfield tantalizingly close to a spot in the national final at Trailfinders Sports Ground in Ealing. However, Whitgift managed to secure victory with a late score. Martin reflected on the game: “It was an excellent match, and right up to the 60-minute mark, the boys gave their all. I’m genuinely proud of their effort.”

He praised their development throughout the season: “We’ve come a long way since September, and the progress these lads have made is what we’re truly proud of. For many, this isn’t the end of their rugby journey – they will continue to improve.”
