Royal Mail is facing mounting criticism after failing to meet its delivery performance targets in the SN postcode area, where almost 20% of first-class letters are arriving late. Recent data reveals that only 75.2% of first-class mail was delivered on time—substantially below Royal Mail’s 93% target.
The concerning figures have led Sarah Gibson, the Liberal Democrat MP representing Chippenham, Calne, Corsham, Lyneham, and Royal Wootton Bassett, to call for urgent regulatory intervention from Ofcom. Gibson condemned the postal service for “failing people here in our constituency.”
“These missed delivery targets are simply unacceptable and are causing significant disruption for many residents in Wiltshire,” Gibson stated. “People depend on reliable mail services to manage their daily lives, and they should not have to endure ongoing delays.”

Gibson emphasized that the problem has persisted for too long and stressed the need for accountability. “It’s time for Ofcom to step in, address these unacceptable delays, and ensure Royal Mail delivers the service people deserve,” she said.
The MP pledged to continue pressuring Royal Mail to improve performance and restore community confidence.
The call for action follows numerous complaints from residents and small businesses experiencing delayed hospital appointment letters and parcel deliveries critical to local trade.
The Liberal Democrats are urging for greater transparency and stronger oversight of Royal Mail’s service standards, warning that without tougher regulation, delivery delays and declining service quality may worsen.
