Lancashire delivered a commanding performance at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, as career-best List A centuries from Keaton Jennings and Rocky Flintoff propelled them to their highest ever one-day total, securing a dominant 174-run victory over Somerset in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
After being put into bat, Lancashire amassed an imposing 443-6, the highest List A score recorded against Somerset at their home ground. Jennings led the charge with a spectacular 156 off 127 balls, while 18-year-old Flintoff contributed his maiden List A century, an aggressive 123 from just 76 deliveries. The innings was punctuated by 20 towering sixes, highlighting the intensity of Lancashire’s assault.
In reply, Somerset struggled to keep pace and were dismissed for 269 runs in 39.2 overs. Tom Lammonby top-scored with 68, but wickets from Tom Aspinwall, who claimed 4-42, and George Balderson, who took 4-58, ensured a comprehensive triumph for the visitors.

Somerset head coach Jason Kerr acknowledged the challenge posed by the Lancashire pair, stating, “We didn’t get it right with the ball today, although you have to give great credit to Keaton Jennings and Rocky Flintoff for the partnership they produced.” He also noted the pressures facing their young and relatively inexperienced squad, especially playing in front of large home crowds.
Kerr added that despite the setback, Somerset would focus on their campaign for their first County Championship title. The side had been hampered by injuries this season, but a return of key players and potential new signings could bolster their prospects for the upcoming four-day fixtures.
Lancashire’s innings started solidly, with opening batsman Matty Hurst scoring 47 before falling to off-spinner Archie Vaughan, who also removed Josh Bohannon for a stumping. The pivotal moment came as Jennings and Flintoff launched a ferocious 214-run partnership in just over 21 overs, unleashing a barrage of boundaries that left the Somerset bowlers reeling.
The pair reached their hundreds at a rapid pace - Jennings completing his tenth List A century off 97 balls, and Flintoff achieving his first in just 65 deliveries. The innings momentum saw 289 runs scored in the final 25 overs, emphasising the challenges Somerset faced under the cloudless, hot conditions.
Flintoff’s celebration upon reaching his century was a highlight, mirroring the passion of his father Andrew Flintoff, a cricketing legend. Lancashire’s late batting contributions from Harry Singh and Jack Blatherwick, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 10 balls, pushed the total beyond 440.
Somerset’s reply faltered early as their openers were dismissed leg-before-wicket by Aspinwall, and subsequent wickets fell regularly. Although Lammonby offered resistance with a measured 68, his effort was insufficient as the required run rate climbed beyond 10 per over.
Teenage wicketkeeper Ben Church displayed flashes of aggression with a 24-run contribution, but Somerset were ultimately outclassed across batting and bowling departments by an impressive Lancashire side.
The result confirms Somerset’s position at the bottom of their group in the One Day Cup and provides Lancashire with a significant boost as they progress in the competition.
