Three Royal Navy Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton aircrew who tragically lost their lives in a Merlin helicopter crash during a training exercise have been laid to rest with full honors.
Lieutenant Commander Chris Gayson, 42, of Somerset; Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher, 31, from Surrey; and Petty Officer Owen Green, 24, from Hampshire, died in the accident near Okehampton, Devon, in the early hours of June 3. The incident sent shockwaves through the Royal Navy community and deeply affected the families and friends of the victims.
All three airmen have been laid to rest at the Royal Navy Cemetery adjacent to The Fleet Air Arm Memorial Church in Yeovilton, close to their base. RNAS Yeovilton continues to extend heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues still grieving more than a month after the devastating event.

Tributes poured in from loved ones highlighting the exceptional character of each crew member. Lieutenant Commander Chris Gayson’s family described him as “an extremely kind and gentle family man who was deeply devoted to his family and passionate about his service in the Royal Navy.”
Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher was remembered by her family as “an extraordinary woman, full of life and determination who inspired everyone around her. Her spirit and achievements created a lasting impact on all who knew her.”
Petty Officer Owen Green’s family shared their heartbreak, saying, “Owen was a caring and devoted son, brother, grandson, and loving partner to Iona. His warmth, kindness, and dedication as a Junglie Aircrewman will never be forgotten. Though his life was tragically brief, he brought immense joy and pride to our lives.”
